Staff stories:

People who work in the disability sector are as diverse as those they assist, as demonstrated in the stories from some of the 100+ adaptCARE staff members. Some always knew their calling was to work in the care sector, others fell into their roles by chance.

If you do a google search there are countless sites listing the desirable skills and attributes people need to have to work in this industry. Sometimes there are ‘recruitment’ snapshots of individuals exhibiting them. The aim of our carers’ stories, however, is to put flesh on the bones of those who actually do the job by telling you who they are and how they ended up here. While collectively they may all share certain outlooks or aspirations, such as a deep commitment in helping make a positive difference in the lives of others, or possess caring and empathetic dispositions, it’s their individual stories that tell not only the why and how they came to work in the sector, but, albeit briefly, who they are that reveal the human face of the sector. Peoples’ stories are after all endlessly fascinating.

For the most part, the selection of staff stories included here were gathered randomly. Some were first collected to feature in our in-house newsletters to either introduce new staff members, or to let staff know about role changes of existing staff. Others were collected specifically to feature here with an eye on portraying the diversity of backgrounds and experiences of our staff. It’s these variables that enrich outcomes for participants and staff alike and keep life interesting.
